Baan Tepa is a two-Michelin-starred modern Thai restaurant in Bang Kapi, set inside a converted family home that once belonged to chef-owner Chudaree 'Tam' Debhakam's grandmother. The compound has been in the family for three generations, and it still carries the hard-wood floors, high ceilings, and residential warmth of the original house, paired with an open kitchen, a chef's table, and a productive culinary garden out back.
Chef Tam won the inaugural Top Chef Thailand in 2017 and opened Baan Tepa in 2020. In late 2023 the restaurant earned its second Michelin star, making her the first Thai woman in history to lead a two-star kitchen. She was also named Asia's Best Female Chef 2025 by Asia's 50 Best Restaurants, where Baan Tepa sits among the region's top fifty.
The cooking is anchored by three pillars the chef talks about often: local ingredients, creativity, and sustainability. A Michelin Green Star recognises the kitchen's work with Thai biodiversity, low-waste practices, and produce grown on the grounds themselves.
You arrive at a residential address on Ramkhamhaeng Road and step into a garden courtyard rather than a conventional dining room. Before service, you are often walked through the culinary garden so you can see and smell the herbs, flowers, and heritage Thai vegetables that will appear on the plate.
Dinner is a seven-course seasonal tasting menu served in an intimate open-kitchen space where the cooks plate a few metres from your table. Expect traditional Thai techniques reimagined course by course, clear provenance on every ingredient, and small touches like candlesticks sculpted from egg and seafood shells that reflect the sustainability focus. Reservations are essential and the format is tasting-only.
The Seasonal Thai Tasting Menu is the heart of the experience, a seven-course progression that shifts with what the garden and regional farms are sending in that week. Heritage Rice Dishes showcase lesser-known Thai grain varieties and treat rice as a main event rather than a side. The Traditional Curry Course distils classic regional curries into a single refined plate, with pastes pounded in-house and aromatics pulled from the on-site garden. Beyond the food, the three-generation family house itself is a highlight, as is the pre-meal garden walk that sets the tone for everything that follows.
Baan Tepa sits at 561 Ramkhamhaeng Road in Hua Mak, Bang Kapi, east of central Bangkok and a short taxi ride from the Airport Rail Link and the Yellow Line MRT.
