Water Library

European in Pathumwan

European $$$$ Pathumwan ★ 4.7

Water Library is a European restaurant in Pathumwan, Bangkok, occupying Level 5 of Central Embassy with floor-to-ceiling windows and the dramatic water-bottle tower that gives the group its name. The kitchen is led by Austrian chef Oliver Drug, formerly of Michelin-starred Restaurant Amador, who brings modern European cooking rooted in classical French technique to a dining room built around polished stone, soft lighting, and sweeping views across Phloen Chit.

The Water Library group was founded in 2009 by wine and water importer Pote Lee and helped pioneer Thailand's modern fine-dining scene. The original Chamchuri Square flagship remains a MICHELIN Guide listed restaurant, while the Central Embassy sister venue extends the same seasonal, produce-led philosophy into a more contemporary mall-top setting designed for long lunches, date nights, and pre-theatre dinners.

Expect a menu that moves with the seasons, a deep cellar assembled by a team that has been sourcing wine for more than a decade, and pacing that lets each course breathe.

What to Expect

You arrive on Level 5 of Central Embassy and step into a hushed, design-forward room where water features and glass dominate the sightlines. Staff greet you by name if you have booked, walk you through the seasonal menu, and offer pairings from a cellar that leans French with sharp picks from Italy, Austria, and the New World.

You can order a la carte or choose the tasting menu, and the kitchen is comfortable adjusting courses for dietary needs. Service is attentive without hovering, conversation stays easy thanks to generous table spacing, and the whole meal tends to run two to three hours if you settle in for wine.

Highlights

Foie gras is treated with restraint, served warm with seasonal fruit and a measured reduction that lets the liver do the talking. Truffle risotto arrives glossy and loose, finished tableside with shavings over carnaroli cooked to a soft bite. The grilled Wagyu striploin is the centrepiece protein, rested properly and plated with a classical jus rather than heavy sauce work. A whole lobster pasta and a slow-cooked Chilean sea bass rotate on and off the card depending on season. Desserts lean French, with an apple tarte that regulars order on sight.

Location & Access

Water Library sits on Level 5 of Central Embassy at 1031 Phloen Chit Road in Lumphini, Pathum Wan, directly connected to Phloen Chit BTS via the mall's sky bridge.
