Ari and Saphan Khwai, Bangkok carry five bars on Weavify and two of them are wine bars, which is an unusual weighting for a five-venue list. Cantina keeps more than sixty labels curated by a sommelier co-owner on a two-storey rack, in a room modelled on Italian cellars, and pours a Negroni shakerato alongside the bottles. No Bar sits in a quiet alley, began life as an online shop during the pandemic, and runs a small minimal-intervention list strong in Georgia and Serbia, with orange and skin-contact wines and Isaan beef tartare to eat.
The cocktail pair both borrow from further east. aiya bkk works a Hong Kong-inspired menu in red-toned rooms on the second floor of The Hub Phahol-Ari, and Tiger Ari takes the third floor of La Villa Ari, steps from BTS Ari exit 4, under a bilingual tiger name.
Old Dirty is the loud one, a gastropub in the Aqua Project complex on Phahonyothin Road with live music at weekends from eight and Thai artists on some weeknights. Three of the five run to two in the morning: aiya, Tiger and Old Dirty. Cantina closes at eleven, and No Bar shuts on Mondays and Tuesdays.
