All six rooftop bars in Sukhumvit, Bangkok listed here sit on top of a hotel, and every one of them serves food as well as drinks. The difference is what comes out of the kitchen. Belga, on the 32nd floor of the Sofitel, runs a Belgian brasserie with moules-frites, beer flights and Liege waffles. Sato San, on the 32nd floor of a Ratchaprasong hotel, crosses Thai-Isaan cooking with Japanese sharing plates and pours a mango sticky rice cocktail. Pastel serves Mediterranean food from the 22nd floor off Soi 11, roughly a hundred metres above the street. Bangkok Heightz cooks modern Thai food drawn from street dishes, thirty-nine floors up.
Two lean on a theme instead. The Speakeasy occupies the 24th and 25th floors of Hotel Muse behind a staircase hidden by a painting, running a 1920s European idea and travel cocktails named for King Rama V. AIRE, on the 28th floor above Sukhumvit 24, keeps two open-air terraces connected to covered indoor lounges, which makes it the most usable of these in wet weather.
Every one of the six serves past midnight. Four run to one or two in the morning; AIRE closes at midnight from Sunday to Thursday and stretches to one on Fridays and Saturdays.
All 6 stay open past midnight.
